Power surge as fans wake early for Rugby World Cup final

12:51 pm on 2 November 2015

Auckland lines company Vector says demand for power during yesterday's Rugby World Cup final was so high, it was as if everyone in Taupo had turned on their appliances at the same time.

It says it was a massive increase, with an 80-megawatt surge in demand at half-time.

The police say it was a busier than usual Sunday morning as fans celebrated the All Blacks win but people were generally well behaved.

Meanwhile, Auckland Council events agency ATEED is finalising plans for a parade to mark the All Blacks' win.

Electricity demand surges on Vector's network during the early hours of Sunday.
