Firefighters have controlled a blaze that has burned through 100 hectares of pine trees near Lumsden in Southland.
Ground crews and nine helicopters will continue dampening down hot spots until dusk and will be stood down overnight, before returning at first light tomorrow.
Winds up to 30 kilometres an hour helped the fire spread.
The blaze started at 10.30am.
