A prisoner who was seriously assaulted at Rimutaka Prison in Upper Hutt is still in intensive care in a serious but stable condition.
He was taken to Hutt Hospital on Wednesday after he was attacked by another prisoner.
The prison's director Chris Burns said violence was not tolerated and any prisoners using violence would be held to account.
