Police in Hastings are searching for a teenager who disappeared while swimming this afternoon.
Emergency services began searching about 4pm where the Tutaekuri, Clive and Ngaruroro Rivers meet at the Waitangi Bridge after the 16-year-old international student disappeared.
Police said he was last seen swimming in the area, before getting into difficulties, and disappearing from view.
A friend he was swimming with could not find him and then he had to be helped from the water by other members of the public.
Police said the dive squad would join the search tomorrow.
