Investigators are trying to determine what caused a hunters' hut in a remote part of Southland to go up in flames, killing a man.
The Fire Service was called to the hut in Papatotara, near Tuatapere, in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The remote and difficult access meant it took nearly an hour for fire crews in four-wheel drive vehicles to reach the scene.
Another man escaped the fire unharmed.
