A large scrub fire near Kaikohe is under control, but some properties have been evacuated and part of State Highway 12 remains closed.
The blaze covered six-hectares at its peak, and four helicopters were called in to help douse the fire.
The Fire Service's shift manager, Paul Radden, said the fire was now under control, and they were digging out firebreaks to stop it spreading.
State Highway 12 between State Highway One and Te Pua Road is still closed, but one lane was expected to reopen soon.
