A climber has died after falling in Aoraki Mt Cook National Park this morning.
Inspector Dave Gaskin said she fell 300 metres down the Footstool mountain.
He said a beacon was set off by a climbing party and a helicopter took her to the Aoraki Mt Cook Rescue Centre, where she subsequently died.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
The police are expected to release more information this afternoon.
