A woman has been left with cuts and bruises after a stranger assaulted her at her Hutt Valley home.
Police said the woman, 63, was assaulted by a man at her front door in Naenae about 10pm on Monday.
She told the police she did not know her attacker.
Detective Sergeant James Patea said the motive was unclear, but police were investigating strong leads.
Police described the man as Maori, aged between 35 and 40, of solid to fat build with a beard.
