Water restrictions in the parched Tasman district have been lifted, following wet weather over the weekend.
Tasman District Council had warned some rural areas, particularly areas south of Nelson, faced an increasingly dry summer.
Before the weekend's rain, the council said rainfall in the Richmond and Waimea areas was the fourth lowest since 1940.
Tasman District Council's dry weather taskforce convenor Dennis Bush-King said the rain had given apple farmers, and those with crops, a reprieve.
He said urban water users were still only able to use hand-held hoses to water gardens on alternate days.
