Souvenir shop robbed in Christchurch

5:06 pm on 7 January 2016

Four men in masks, one carrying a gun, have robbed a souvenir shop in Christchurch.

The police were called to The Best Souvenirs on Riccarton Road about 11am this morning.

Senior Sergeant Jim Curry said the men drove off in a stolen silver Subaru Legacy, which they dumped a short time later on Piko Crescent.

Mr Curry said a knife wrapped in a bandana was also found in a nearby park.

He said no one was injured in the robbery, and it is unclear what was stolen.

A man who was at the scene said he heard loud banging from the shop.

"Initially we thought a shelf had fallen over, but then it just kept going."

He said he then saw two men backing out of the store, one of them was carrying a gun.

The police want anyone who saw the vehicle or the men near the Riccarton Road area to contact them.
