A 45-year-old man has died in a collision between the car he was driving and a logging truck south of Whangarei.
The car, heading north on State Highway 1 about 7.15am, appeared to have lost control and crossed the centre line on Smeatons Hill then gone into the path of a fully laden logging truck that was heading south, police said.
The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, has died at the scene. The truck driver was uninjured.
