Bogus water testers in Hawke's Bay

9:18 pm on 20 January 2016

Residents in Hawke's Bay have been receiving bogus calls from people impersonating council staff and offering to test their water pressure.

The Hawke's Bay Regional Council says at least three people have been called, and it's concerned for the security of local homeowners.

A spokesperson, Drew Broadley, says the impersonators are asking people to commit to a time when they're home to conduct a water pressure test.

Mr Broadley says they could be scoping for a burglary, and should not be invited inside.

He says anybody who has already been contact should inform the police.

Neither the regional or any local councils are testing water pressure at residential homes.
