Sealord workers to give feedback on job cuts

Sealord workers in Nelson who face losing their jobs will provide feedback to the company next Tuesday, a union says.

It was announced this week that 60 hoki processing jobs are likely to go at Sealord's Nelson factory.

The news came after a 12-month review revealed Sealord's crumbed fish-bites operation was no longer commercially viable due to offshore competition.

E tū union coordinator Chas Muir said consultation was underway.

He said some of the staff had moved to Nelson from Dunedin after factory closures there and were good, loyal workers.

Sealord is looking to establish 15 new fish processing roles if it confirms it will end the fish bites operation.
