A mounted guard of honour marks the site of the former camp and Defence Force representatives and local residents are among those served a regimental mess-style lunch.
The camp just north of the Wairarapa town was the country's biggest training camp during World War I; more than 60,000 men were trained there before going overseas.
The buildings were demolished in 1926 and the site was used as a prisoner of war camp for Japanese captives during the World War II.
