An injured tramper who had failed to return from a walk in the Cobb Valley in the Nelson region has been found early this morning.
Search coordinator Constable Dave Cogger said the 30 year-old man set off on a walk with two others to the Cobb Dam, Upper Takaka, yesterday morning.
The party separated and the man failed to meet up with the others later and was reported missing.
Mr Cogger said the man was not equipped for a night in the outdoors.
He was found early this morning by a ground search team, including a specialist cave rescue team.
Mr Cogger says the terrain prevents a ground recovery of the injured man and arrangements were being made to winch him out by helicopter.
