A man who drowned at Hot Water Beach on the Coromandel Peninsular on Sunday has been named.
He was Hiva Pea'ulu Lavaka, 24.
Mr Lavaka was with a group of five friends who got into trouble in the surf and were rescued by lifeguards.
He was unresponsive when brought to shore and attempts to revive him failed.
Mr Lavaka's death brought the number of drownings in the Waikato region this summer to six.
