Activity in the services sector finished the year near its strongest level in eight years, with new orders driving steady growth.
The BNZ-Business New Zealand Performance of Services Index fell to just under 1 point to 58.9 last month. A reading over 50 indicates expansion.
When combined with last week's strong manufacturing sector growth, the numbers point to annual economic growth rate of more than 3 percent at the end of last year.
