Auckland man who died helping swimmer named

The police have named the man who died in Auckland's Waitemata Harbour while trying to help a struggling swimmer on Tuesday night.

He was 47-year-old Rod Anderson, of Beach Haven.

The police say Mr Anderson went into the water at the Beach Haven wharf to help the swimmer, who eventually made it back to shore.

Mr Anderson's body was found the following morning.

His death has been referred to the coroner.
