8:39 pm on 16 February 2016

A worker has been injured in a fire at the country's only oil refinery, Marsden Point in Northland.

Refining New Zealand said its own crews contained and put out what it called a small fire this afternoon.

A management spokesperson said a member of the maintenance team received minor injuries and would spend the night in Whangarei Hospital.

The cause of the fire is unknown but under investigation.
