A man remains in hospital after being seriously assaulted in Cromwell early this morning.
The 43-year-old Cromwell man suffered serious facial injuries, including a suspected broken jaw, fractured cheekbone and injuries to his ribs, police said.
He is being transferred from Dunstan Hospital to Dunedin Hospital to undergo surgery in the next few days.
The assault occurred near the public toilets on Lode Lane shortly after midnight.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the attack, or people in the area, to contact them.
