A child has died after being hit by a car on State Highway 25 at Waitakaruru, on the Hauraki Plains, this morning.
A police spokesperson said the 18-month-old had wandered out of his home and on to the road about 6.40am.
The road was closed from Canal East Road to Pouarua Road but was expected to reopen early this afternoon.
