Firefighters bring scrub blaze under control

10:47 pm on 13 March 2016

A big scrub fire in Marlborough is now under complete control thanks to about 25 firefighters today, the Fire Service says.

The fire had been burning on Vernon Station just south of Blenheim since Friday night.

The region's principal rural fire officer, Richard McNamara, said he could not say for certain if all the hot spots were out, but if any remained, they did not pose a major risk.

A handful of firefighters would return tomorrow to monitor the area.
