A planned review of police services on the West Coast has attracted 241 submissions.
A police spokesperson said the plan to centralise some services in Greymouth and to axe Karamea's sole police officer had prompted a strong public reaction.
Communities throughout the West Coast-Tasman region also raised concerns about worsening police response times to crimes like burglary.
Submissions to the plan closed on 4 March, after the police extended the consultation period in response to public concerns.
