Council told to give park ranger his job back

A Bay of Plenty park ranger sacked after getting into a fight has been temporarily reinstated.

Jarron McInnes got into a fight with a French freedom camper who was drinking at the TECT All Terrain Park in January.

Following an internal investigation and disciplinary action, the Western Bay of Plenty Council dismissed him.

Now, the Employment Relations Authority has ruled there may be a case for unjustified dismissal, and he should be given his job back until a full investigation is complete.

Former Tauranga city councillor Murray Guy said Mr McIness should never have lost his job.
