6.1 quake strikes south-east of Tonga

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake has struck southeast of Tonga, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake hit 277 kilometres south-southeast of the capital Nuku'alofa at a depth of 66kms, the USGS said.

There was no immediate tsunami threat from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
