Sir Edward Durie to act as Māori Council's sole chair

The New Zealand Māori Council has elected Sir Edward Taihakurei Durie as its sole chair.

Previously, Mr Durie and Maanu Paul co-chaired.

Owen Lloyd was elected Deputy Chair.

The new executive is Harvey Ruru, John Hooker, Ngaio Te Ua, Rudy Taylor and Tamati Cairns.

The council comprises 3 members appointed by 14 District Māori Councils - a total of 42 members.
