A police operation in central Auckland has caught four bars selling alcohol to minors.

Police said they were disappointed by the results of the operation, in which four of the eight on-licensed premises they targeted sold alcohol to people aged under 18.

One bar sold alcohol to a 15-year-old, police said.

Inspector Gary Davey said the four premises - in Ellerslie, Panmure and Newmarket - will be prosecuted under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act.

Another operation in the city last month caught five bars selling alcohol to minors.
