Ballot for Vietnam War vets to attend commemoration now open

A ballot for Vietnam War veterans to attend a commemoration of the war in Canberra in August is now open.

3000 New Zealanders served in Vietnam between 1963 and 1975 and 37 died in the war.

The commemoration will he held on 18 August, which is Vietnam Veterans' Day and the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan.

There are 35 places available, five of them reserved specifically for veterans of 161 Battery, which served on the gun line during the Battle of Long Tan.

Registrations close on 24 June.
