Flights from Christchurch touch down in Antarctic winter

Flights from Christchurch will now arrive in Antarctica about every six weeks, despite the icy continent having previously been virtually cut off during the winter.

One flight touched down this week to deliver fruit and vegetables and care packages.

Antarctica New Zealand winter leader Andy Waters says gave workers a massive morale boost.

He said improved technology such as night-vision goggles allowed for the new flights.
