Push to save 100,000 Supergold cardholders from losing free transport

A late postal push is being made to try to stop more than 100,000 Auckland Supergold cardholders losing their access to free public transport in ten days time.

This follows a change of heart by the Minister for Seniors, Maggie Barry, and the Ministry of Social Development.

Earlier, they chose not to give Auckland Transport the cardholder mailing list so it could write to them all.

The over-65s in Auckland need a special version of the city's electronic travel card, so they can still get free transport from July.

An estimated 110,000 cardholders have not applied for the new card.
