Orcon has become the first internet service provider to announce retail pricing for access to ultra fast broadband.

Plans on the fibre network begin at $75 for residential customers and $169 dollars plus GST for businesses.

Orcon says about 20,000 homes and businesses have fibre running past the door, with that number expected to grow to about 100,000 by the end of the year.

It says customers who are in the networked regions can sign up for ultra fast broadband from Wednesday and the connection will hooked up in the next month.

Orcon says the newly-priced packages come with data-caps of up to one thousand gigabytes.

Fibre connections will initially be available only to ultra fast broadband enabled addresses in Auckland, Wellington, Whangarei, Rotorua, Palmerston North and Blenheim.
