The number of electronic card transactions rose slightly in July to 84 million.
Figures from Statistics New Zealand says the total number increased by 0.4% from June. Their value was $4.6 billion.
The increase was due to a rise in spending on items such as fuel, food furniture and clothing, partly offset by a decrease in spending in the hospitality sector.
