The NZX 50 fell 5 points to close at 3481 on turnover of $36 million.
In the currency markets at 5.55pm, the NZ dollar was at 81.90 US, 78.07 Australian, 51.57 pence, 68.53 yen and 0.6173 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 73.01.
Fletcher Building was down 3 cents to $6.89, Telecom was down 7 cents to $2.41, Chorus was down 4 cents to $3.46 and Contact Energy was up 5 cents at $4.73.
Auckland International Airport was down 1.5 cents to $2.45 and Air New Zealand was down 1.5 cents to 86 cents.
Sky City Entertainment was down 1 cent at $3.86, Sky Television Network was up 2 cents to $5.12 and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was up 1 cent to $2.29.
Ports of Tauranga was unchanged at $10.75, AMP was up 1 cent to $5.43 and Mainfreight was up 10 cents to $9.60.
