NZX 50 lifts 9 points

A sharp lift of 9 points in the NZX 50 benchmark index for New Zealand shares boosted it to 3495 points at close, on turnover of $91 million.

Strong rises were seen in Fletcher Building which was up 4 cents to $6.74 , Chorus was up 5 cents to $3.69, Mainfreight was up 10 cents to $9.55, and Ryman was up 7 cents to $3.07.

Cornerstone stock Telecom fell 1 cent to $2.45, and Contact Energy fell 1 cent to $4.67, Sky Network Television dropped 3 cents to $5.15, and Auckland International Airport fell 2.5 cents to $2.415. Fisher & Paykel Health was unchanged at $2.21.

In currency markets, the New Zealand dollar was 81.66 US cents, 78.79 Australian cents, 51.33 pence, 67.46 yen, and 0.6126 of a euro. The Trade Weighted Index stood at 72.76 points.
