NZX 50 down 16 points

The NZX 50 index slipped 16 points, or 0.5%, to close at 3494 points on turnover of $75 million on Monday.

Fletcher Building fell 11 cents to $6.63, Chorus dropped 9 cents to $3.61 and Australian-controlled Contact Energy slipped 8 cents to $4.65, while Sky City Entertainment went down 10 cents to $3.84.

Cornerstone stock Telecom rose 2.5 cents to $2.45, Sky Network Television lifted 1 cent to $5.19, and Oceana Gold jumped 6 cents to $3.26, while Ryman Healthcare went up 3 cents to $3.12.

Among retail stocks, The Warehouse rose 1 cent, to $2.80, clothing shop Hallenstein Glasson lifted 3 cents to $4.04, and outdoors retailer Kathmandu rose sharply, by 7 cents to $1.66

In currency markets, the dollar finished the New Zealand business day at 81.96 cents US, 78.85 cents Australian, 51.27 pence, 68.05 Japanese yen and 0.6143 euro. The trade weighted index stood at 72.98.
