NZ sharemarket ends Tuesday down

The New Zealand sharemarket closed lower on Tuesday with the NZX 50 index falling 21 points, or 0.6% at 3473. Turnover for the day was $98 million.

Among the major share movements, Fletcher Building was down 16 cents to $6.47, Telecom was unchanged at $2.45, Chorus closed down 12 cents at $3.49, and Contact Energy was down 2 cents to $4.63.

Sky City Entertainment gained 2 cents to close at $3.86, Sky Network Television was down 6 cents to $5.25 and The Warehouse shed 12 cents to $2.68 after going ex-dividend

AMP was down 12 cents to $5.40, Port of Tauranga was up 9 cents to $10.94 and Ebos was down 11 cents to $7.14 after going ex-dividend

Xero gained 16 cents to $4.00 after recording strong annual sales growth, Restaurant Brands closed up 5 cents at $1.91 after its full year profit fell by 30% to $16.9 million and TeamTalk ended the day up 1 cent at $2.41.

On the currency markets, at 5.20pm the New Zealand dollar was buying 82.34 US, 79.17 Australian, 51.34 pence, 67.51 Yen, and 0.6177 euro.

The Trade Weighted Index was at 73.18
