NZX50 gains 42 points in Wednesday trading

The New Zealand stockmarket rose 1.2% on Wednesday with the NZX50 up 50 points to close at 3523 on turnover of $91 million.

Among the major share movements, Fletcher Building closed up 3 cents at $6.29, Telecom gained 4.5 cents at $2.53, Chorus was down 1 cent to $3.45 and Contact Energy finished the day up 13 cents at $4.90.

SkyCity Entertainment was up 7 cents at $3.89, Sky Television gained 13 cents to $5.33, Auckland International Airport rose 6 cents to $2.56 and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was up 3 cents to $2.18.

Mainfreight closed up 16 cents at $9.50, Refining NZ was up 6 cents at $2.85, Vector shed 2 cents to $2.64 and Cavalier Corp was down 6 cents to $2.13.

A2 Corporation was unchanged at 51 cents after announcing a strategic review.

Heartland Bank was up 3 cents to 60 cents.

On the money markets, at 5.20pm the New Zealand dollar was buying 82.21 US, 79.04 Australian, 51.59 pence, 66.87 yen and 0.6265 euro.

The trade-weighted index stood at 73.30.
