Boeing has boosted its profit due to airlines updating their fleets with more fuel-efficient planes.

The US plane maker made $US923 million in the three months to March, an increase of 58% compared with the same period a year ago.

It delivered 137 commercial aircraft in that period, up from 104 in the first quarter of 2011 and also ahead of Airbus, which made 131 deliveries.

Revenue from commercial aircraft grew 54% to $US10.9 billion, while its revenue from military aircraft grew 27% to $US4.3 billion.
