Trustpower says the expansion of its South Australian windfarm is a step closer.

The Tauranga-based listed firm says it has signed a 15-year agreement to supply all the power from its planned Snowtown II windfarm to Origin Energy.

Origin already has a purchase agreement for 89% of the Snowtown I facility, located 160km north west of Adelaide.

The Snowtown II windfarm will have 90 turbines producing up to 270 megawatts and is expected to be commissioned in 2014.
