Hydro scheme consents obtained

Solid Energy says it's obtained resource consents for a hydro-electricity generation scheme using water from its Stockton mine in Buller.

The scheme will produce 195 gigawatt hours of electricity per year, which is sufficient to power 24,000 houses.

The company appealed to the Environment Court after its application was turned down by Commissioners acting for the Buller District and West Coast Regional Councils in mid-2010.
