NZ market higher at close

The New Zealand share market lifted on Tuesday, finishing 11.93 points (0.34%) higher at 3552 on turnover of $112 million.

Gainers among the index stocks included Chorus (up 13 cents at $3.17) and Mainfreight, which rose 6 cents to $9.75.

Auckland Airport rose 1 cent to $2.59, Infratil rose 4 cents to $2, Sky City also lifted 4 cents to $3.90, and TradeMe also rose 2 cents to $3.84.

Briscoe Group rose 4 cents to $1.57 after reporting $102.5 million in first quarter sales, which is 6.46% higher than the same period last year.

Fisher and Paykel Healthcare was unchanged at $2.27.

Stocks which lost ground included Fletcher Building, down 2 cents at $6.22, while Freightway was down 1 cent at $4.11 and Sky TV fell 7 cents to $5.50.

Cornerstone stock Telecom fell 1.5 cents to $2.57.

At 5.52pm on Tuesday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 79.32 US cents, 77.89 Australian cents, 49.03 pence, 63.45 yen and 0.6087 euro.

The trade-weighted index - a basket of currencies used by key trading partners - was at 70.95 points.
