Key stock market index down again

The NZX50 index fell 8 points to close at 3493 on Monday, when the market recorded a modest turnover of $60 million.

Fletcher Building fell 2 cents to $6.27, Chorus fell 1 cent to $3.15, Contact Energy fell 6 cents to $4.84, Sky City Entertainment fell 1 cent to $3.51, and Sky Network TV fell 6 cents to $5.14. Auckland International Airport dropped 3 cents to $2.54, and The Warehouse fell 3 cents to $2.56.

Metlifecare was unchanged at $2.05 after rejigging takeover bids for two other retirement village operators.

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare rose 3 cents to $2.41, while cornerstone stock Telecom rose 2.5 cents to $2.55 and OceanaGold rose 1 cent to $2.43.

Wakefield Health jumped 20 cents to $4.95 after the private hospital operator's full year profit surged from $600,000 to $6 million.

At the close of the business day, the New Zealand dollar was at 75.92 US cents, 77.07 Australian cents, 47.99 pence, 60.14 yen, 0.594 euro and the Trade Weighted Index was at 68.74 points.
