Auckland Chamber of Commerce says its latest quarterly business confidence survey shows company confidence has almost halved since February.
The survey of almost 900 respondents shows businesses are cautious about the general business environment and their own situation.
A net 12% of respondents believe that business will improve, down from 22% in February.
However, almost half of respondents predicted their own business would improve, slightly down from February.
