Offshore markets up

Stocks rebounded on Wall St on Monday, but Facebook shares have fallen sharply below their $$38 issue price. Support by underwriters of the initial public offering has faded after its Friday debut.

The Dow Jones Index closed up 135 points, or 1.1%%, at 12,504. The Nasdaq Composite was up 68 points, or 2.5%, at 2847.

In Europe: the FTSE 100 index in London rose 0.7%, the DAX in Frankfurt was up 1% and the CAC-40 in Paris was up 0.6%.

The Nikkei In Tokyo was up 23 points at 8634.

The Australian 200 rose 27 points, or 0.6%, to close at 4074 and the NZX50 index fell 9 points to close at 3493.

The New Zealand dollar on Tuesday was trading at 76.47 US cents, 77.11 Australian cents, 48.25 pence, 60.59 yen and 0.5962 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 69.11.

Brent crude oil was trading at $US109.73 per barrel and gold is trading at $US1587.31 per ounce.
