New food advertising standards set by Disney

Disney has set new standards for food advertising on children's outlets, banning junk food promotions.

It says it will allow promotion only of foodstuffs meeting national guidelines.

US federal standards promote fruit and vegetables and call for limiting calories, fat, salt and sugar.

Disney, whose programmes are broadcast on its own channels and website as well as on the ABC TV network, says the move makes it the first major media company to introduce such standards.

The company says it wants to set new standards on nutrition to try and cut obesity amongst children in America.
