China has overtaken Japan for the first time in the number of firms on a list of the world's biggest companies by revenue.
While United States companies continue to hold most of the positions on the Fortune Global 500 list - with 132 firms featured, Chinese companies were in second, with 73, followed by 68 Japanese companies.
Royal Dutch Shell re-took the top spot this year, after a two-year reign by the US retailer Wal-Mart.
