Fed measures awaited

Stocks on Wall Street fell on Tuesday as investors awaited the outcome of the Federal Reserve Board's two-day meeting which is expected to announced new stimulus measures to help revive the economic recovery.

The Dow Jones Index declined 64 points, or 0.5% , to 13,008. The Nasdaq Composite down 6 points, or 0.2%, to 2940.

In Europe: FTSE 100 index in London fell 1%, the DAX in Frankfurt was down 0.03% and the CAC 40 in Paris was down 0.9%.

The Nikkei index in Tokyo rose 60 points to 8695.

The Australian 200 Index rose 23 points, or 0.6%, to 4269 and the NZX50 rose 26 points, or 0.7%, to close at 35 45

At 8.30am on Wednesday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 80.93 US cents, 77.03 Australian cents, 51.62 pence, 63.21 yen and 0.6576 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 72.82.
