NZX 50 rises 14 points on Tuesday

The NZX 50 benchmark index rose 14 points (0.38%) on Tuesday to close at 3609 points on turnover of $76 million.

Contact Energy rose 3 cents to $4.88 after announcing a 27% rise in full year profit to $190 million, and rival power company Vector rose 2 cents to $2.77.

Freightways up 6 cents at $3.97 after reporting on Monday that it had made a record profit of $37 million.

Trans-Tasman food company Goodman Fielder reported a full year loss of $146.9 million but finished the day up 3 cents at 65 cents a share.

Mainfreight rose 6 cents to $9.50, and cornerstone stock Telecom lifted 3 cents to $2.745.

Sky City rose 1 cent to $3.58, Sky TV lifted 8 cents to $5.20, while Hallenstein Glassons was up 4 cents at $4.35.

Stocks unchanged in price included Chorus ($3.09) and Infratil ($2.09).

Fletcher Building fell 1 cent to $6.53, Fisher and Paykel fell 1 cent to $1.92, and TradeMe dropped 2 cents to $3.86.

AT 5.10pm the NZ dollar was at 81.03 US cents, 77.04 Australian cents, 51.62 pence, 63.52 yen, 0.6553 of a euro and the TWI was at 72.84 points.
