NZ market down

The NZX 50 index rose fractionally - just over half a point - on Monday as the index finished the day up 0.64 of a point at 3623.229, on turnover of $204 million.

Fletcher Building rose 10 cents to $6.57 and Chorus rose 21 cents to $3.37 after reporting a maiden profit of $102 million in the seven months to June.

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare rose 3 cents to $2.07 and clothing retailer Hallenstein Glassson rose 3 cents to $4.45.

Cavalier was unchanged at $1.75, but Telecom fell 10 cents to $2.52, and The Warehouse fell 2 cents to $2.87.

NZX finished down 6 cents at $1.02 and accounting software company Xero slumped nearly 6% (28 cents) to $4.43.

Contact Energy was down 1 cent at $4.80, and Sky TV down 2 cents to $4.98.

At the end of the local business day, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 81.06 US cents, 78.01 Australian cents, 51.28 pence, 63.85 yen and 0.6481 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was 72.86 points.
