Auckland International Airport's full year profit has risen as more people passed through its gates.

The airport operator's profit rose to $142.2 million for the year to the end of June, a 41% increase on the previous year.

Excluding one-off charges and revaluations of assets, the airport's underlying profit rose 15% to $139 million.

Revenue rose 7% percent to $427 million due to higher passenger volumes at its Auckland, Queenstown and North Queensland airports, while costs jumped by 8% to $107.5 million largely due to preparation for the Rugby World Cup.

Acting chief executive Simon Robertson says revenue grew across the board. He is forecasting a profit of $143 - $150 million for the current financial year.

He says the company has focused on growing its services in markets in Asia, Australia and the US which has grown passenger volume.

Mr Robertson says there have also been links through to new services such as the China Southern Airlines services through to Taiwan and Jetstar services to Singapore.

Auckland Airport will pay a dividend of 10.5 cents a share.
